- How often should I change my air filter?
The air filter should be changed at least every three month's. Depending on your application, such as gravel roads by your home or allergies you may do as often as once a month.
- Does my Air conditioner need re-charged
NO! This is a common MYTH. A system never needs re-charged. If freon or coolant is added there was one of two things happening the system is leaking out, or it wasn't quite right from the installation. These are sealed loop systems just like the air in your tires if the tire is low and you have to add air there's a leak somewhere.
- what does seer mean?
Great question, seer is an acronym for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. This is a measurement of how efficient the air conditioner is much like miles per gallon (MPG) for vehicles. The higher the seer number the less electricity it takes to do the cooling. Between about 1990 and 2006 10 seer or 10 mpg was the minumum for an a.c. unit. After January of 2006, 13 seer became the new minumum manufactured by government mandate. The difference is about 30% from 10 to 13 seer. In essence if you cooling cost is $100 with a 10 seer then your new cooling cost should be about $70.
- how long should my system last
This has many different answers Based on Brand, installation process, how often it has been maintained, location even has it's factors. Good equipment, Installed correctly, Maintained spring and fall to manufactures spec's, and located in good conditions can last 25 to 30 years. Low end equipment, (builders grade) installed in a hurry by tech's without the best training, under a deck thats only a foot above the a.c.,and never maintained is usually replaced in 5 to 10 years. So an average could say 15 years of life, but which system do you have?
- Do I need to have my system checked/maintained and how often?
Yes. Most manufacturers will even void a warranty if you dont have the equipment inspected bi-annually by a liscensed certified company. We provide a spring and fall check up program on new equipment free for one year. This truely does improve life expectancy and effeciancy of the equipment.
